A number of OEMs had planned to introduce smartphones at MWC 2020. However, the unfortunate cancellation of the event led to delays in the introduction of telephones.
Sony, on the other hand, cannot be influenced by the cancellation. The Japanese phone manufacturer has launched the Xperia 1 II (see Xperia 1 Mark 2) with important improvements under the hood.
Design & display
In terms of design, the smartphone looks pretty similar to its predecessor. The only difference is the placement and size of the camera movement and, above all, the reduction in the bezel size. On the back of the Xperia 1 II there is a quad sensor reversing camera, which is stacked vertically on the left on the camera housing. There are two LED flashlights above the aisle. It will be available in black and purple.
On the display, the OEM opted for an Xperia 1-like 6.5-inch display with an aspect ratio of 21: 9. The company dropped the notch again and stayed true to the good old bezels to accommodate the earpiece and selfie camera. The OLED display has a 4K resolution and will be equipped with a motion blur reduction, which according to Sony offers the same advantages as a 90 Hz refresh rate display.
As for the innards, the Xperia 1 II is powered by a Snapdragon 865 processor with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB onboard storage. It also comes with stereo front speakers, Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio and even has an audio jack, which is a pleasant addition to its predecessor. Features such as 21: 9 game support, DualShock 4 direct connect, Elite Gaming and Game Enhancer are also mentioned in the datasheet.
On the software side, it comes with Android 10 with slight adjustments from Sony.
This flagship will feature a quad sensor rear view camera with a 12 MP 16 mm 1 / 2.6 ”sensor with dual PD auto focus as the main sensor, which is supported by a 12 MP 24 mm 1 / 1.7” sensor, another 12 MP sensor and a 3D ToF sensor is connected. All sensors are calibrated by ZEISS and have a ZEISS T * coating. Therefore, the camera has improved functions such as real-time eye autofocus and 20 fps AF / AE tracking burst. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is only an 8 MP single shooter.
Aside from that, the smartphone also has a new app called Photography Pro, which works similarly to the Cinema Pro app that came with the Sony Xperia 1. However, this app is used to create professional looking pictures.
Battery and prices
The smartphone is hold up with 4000 mAh with support for wireless charging. The smartphone will be transfer from late spring 2020 and the prices have yet to be confirmed.
