Gaming smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, and several different phone manufacturers are fighting to outperform their competitors. In addition, gaming equipment is also in great demand, and chip manufacturers, including Qualcomm and Mediatek, are constantly releasing chipsets optimized for games, including Snapdragon 765G, Helio G90, etc.
Mediatek Helio G70 Announcement:
Taiwan-based chip maker Mediatek has announced a 12nm Helio G70 SoC processor for low-cost gaming smartphones. It includes an eight-core processor with four ARM Cortex A75 processors with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz and four Cortex A55 cores with a clock frequency of 1.7 GHz. The graphics processor on it is 820 MHz Mali-G52 2EEMC2. It is equipped with Mediatek HyperEngine technology, which is designed to enhance gaming performance.
It supports up to 8 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, eMMC 5.1 storage, Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 5. It also supports a 48-megapixel camera and screen resolutions up to 1080p, but unfortunately does not support 5G. It can encode 2K video at 30 frames per second and 1080p video at 60 frames per second.
Overall, SoC is not much different from Helio G90, with a small overclocked core. However, we will see how it actually works once it is officially released in retail stores.
Redmi 9 is expected to be the first MediaTek Helio G70 phone. According to rumors, the phone will be released somewhere during the first quarter of this year.
